Summer cookouts and barbecues have a few requirements: burgers, chicken, and Beer Brats. Beer Brats grill up savory, spicy sausages and simmer them in sweet and golden caramelized onions and a smoky, hoppy beer sauce. The sausages are coated in extra-savory flavors that are the envy of everyday hot dogs. Beer Brats take a little time and patience to put together, but trust us: everyone at the cookout will be rushing to grab one once they're ready!
Ingredients• 10 bratwursts • 4 tablespoons butter • 2 medium onions, sliced • 4 tablespoons brown sugar • 1 1/2 (12-ounce) bottles of dark beer • 10 hot dog buns
Preheat the grill to medium-high heat.
Grill the bratwursts until just done, according to the package directions.
Transfer the bratwursts to a plate.
In a large skillet, melt the butter.
Add the onion to the butter and cook until translucent, about 3-5 minutes.
Stir in the brown sugar.
Place the bratwursts in the onion mixture.
Pour the beer over the bratwursts.
Cover the skillet and simmer until the beer reduces and the onions are caramelized, for about 30-45 minutes.
Serve the bratwursts and onions on the hot dog buns.
