In French, “cordon-bleu” refers to food cooked to the highest standards and by the best chefs. You can bring that same elegance and quality to your own kitchen with the Chicken Cordon-Bleu. The tender cooked chicken forms a juicy shell for melty cheese and fatty ham, so each bite is a blue ribbon of savory, creamy, and salty delight. Chicken Cordon-Bleu is one of the most beloved examples of French cooking, and it’s surprisingly easy to make. Now’s the time to bring a little more class to your culinary repertoire.
Ingredients
• 4 chicken breast halves, skinless and boneless • 1/4 teaspoon salt • 1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper • 6 slices American or Swiss cheese • 4 slices ham, cooked • 1/2 cup seasoned bread crumbsDirections
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
Coat a 7x11-inch glass oven-safe dish with a nonstick cooking spray.
Pound the chicken until they are about a 1/4-inch in thickness.
Season each chicken breast with salt and pepper on each side.
Lay one slice of cheese and one slice of ham on top of each of the chicken breasts.
Roll up each of the chicken breasts, using a toothpick to secure them and keep them from unrolling.
Place the rolled chicken breasts into the prepared baking dish.
Top each of the chicken breasts evenly with the bread crumbs.
Bake the dish until the chicken is no longer pink and has an internal temperature of 165 degrees F, about 30-35 minutes.
Pull the breasts out of the oven and remove the toothpicks.
Serve immediately.
