Ingredients• 1/2 small onion, chopped • 3 cloves garlic, minced • 1 pound ground beef • 2 1/2 cups tomato sauce • 1 teaspoon dried basil • 1 teaspoon dried oregano • salt, to taste • pepper, to taste • 2 1/2 cups anelletti pasta • 1 1/2 cups Parmesan Romano, grated and divided • 1 1/2 cups mozzarella cheese, grated • 1-2 tablespoons bread crumbs • 1 tablespoon butter • 2 tablespoons olive oil
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
Grease a 9x13-inch or 9x9-inch pan.
In a medium-size skillet or frying pan, saute the onion and garlic in olive oil.
Add the ground beef and cook until browned throughout, about 6-8 minutes.
Add the tomato sauce, basil, oregano, salt, and pepper, stirring to mix.
Reduce the heat to a simmer.
Bring a medium-size pot of water to a boil.
Add the anelletti pasta to the boiling water but only partially cook them according to package directions, to just shy of al dente.
Drain the anelletti pasta in a colander.
In your skillet or frying pan, mix the pasta in with the ragu sauce.
Add the grated mozzarella cheese and 1 cup of the Parmesan Romano.
Pour the pasta/ragu mix into the prepared pan, spreading it evenly throughout the pan.
Sprinkle the bread crumbs and the rest of the parmesan cheese on top of the pasta.
Bake in the oven for 40 minutes.
Let the pasta stand in the pan for 10 minutes after taking it out of the oven. Serve!
