Few appetizers are as welcoming and nourishing as a steaming hot bowl of Miso Soup at a Japanese restaurant. This refreshing and savory soup is actually incredibly easy and fast to make, so you can master it with ease from the comfort of your kitchen. Perfect for pairing alongside seafood, teriyaki, or just on its own, Miso Soup has a surprising depth of toasty, sweet-and-salty seafood flavor. The tofu even adds a touch of heartiness that is more than welcome when the weather turns cold.

• 2 teaspoons dashi granules • 4 cups water • 3 tablespoons miso paste • 1 (8-ounce) package silken tofu, diced • 2 green onions, sliced diagonally into 1/2-inch pieces

Step 1

In a medium saucepan over medium-high heat, combine the dashi granules and the water.

Step 2

Bring the mixture to a boil and reduce the heat to medium.

Step 3

Step 4

Separate the layers of the green onions and add them to the soup.

Step 5

Gently simmer the soup for 2-3 minutes before serving.
