Ingredients• 2 cups + 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour • 3 tablespoons plus 1/2 cup granulated sugar, divided • 1 tablespoon baking powder • 1/2 teaspoon salt • 1/2 cup buttermilk • 1/3 cup milk • 1/3 cup + 6 tablespoons unsalted butter, separated and melted • 3/4 cup firmly packed light-brown sugar • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon • 1/2 cup powdered sugar • 1 tablespoon milk
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
Butter a 12-cup muffin tin.
Using a large bowl add together the flour, the 3 tablespoons of the granulated sugar, the baking powder, and the salt with a whisk.
Pour in the buttermilk, milk, and the 1/3 cup of the melted butter into the flour mixture, mixing with a fork or clean hands.
Pour the remaining 1/2 cup of the granulated sugar into a medium sized container with a lid.
Scoop out the dough a teaspoon at a time and then drop it into the container with the sugar in an even layer, working in intervals.
Cover the container and shake it to coat the balls evenly.
Drop in 6 of the dough balls into each muffin cup. Repeat this process until all of the muffin cups are filled.
Add together the remaining 6 tablespoons of the melted butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon using a whisk until it is well combined.
Pour in around 1 tablespoon of the brown sugar mixture over each muffin.
Put the muffin tin onto a cookie sheet.
Bake until golden brown, about 18-19 minutes. Let the muffins cool for around 5 minutes in the muffin tin before transfering the muffins to a cooling rack.
Using a medium mixing bowl, add together the powdered sugar and the milk using a whisk, mixing until it is well blended.
Pour the icing mixture into a piping bag or resealable bag and drizzle the glaze over each muffin.
