For the French toast: • 4 tablespoons Nutella or chocolate sauce • 8 slices white bread, crusts trimmed and rolled flat • 1/4 cup milk • 1 large egg • 2 tablespoons sugar • 1/4 teaspoon pure vanilla extract For the topping: • 3 tablespoons sugar • 1 teaspoon cinnamon • 3 tablespoons butter • maple syrup, optional, for serving


Step 1

Spread about 1/2 tablespoon of the Nutella or chocolate sauce on each slice of the bread and tightly roll up each bread slice.

Step 2

In one shallow bowl, mix together the milk, egg, sugar, and vanilla with a whisk. In a second shallow bowl, combine the sugar and cinnamon.

Heat a large nonstick skillet over medium heat and add the butter until it melts.

Dip and fully coat each of the rolled-up slices of bread in the milk and egg mixture.

Place the custard-coated rolls into the heated skillet and cook turning as necessary until they are slightly crisp and golden brown on all sides, about 2 minutes.

Step 6

Continue until all of the rolls are cooked.

Step 7

Immediately after removing each slice of bread from the skillet, roll them in the cinnamon and sugar mixture to fully coat.

Step 8

Serve warm with maple syrup on the side.
